Nicolae Testemitanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy is the only higher education institution in the Republic of Moldova that trains doctors and pharmacists. It has become one of the most prestigious institutions in our country, gaining international recognition as well.
In addition to teaching and research, Nicolae Testemitanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy actively collaborates with over 90 institutions across Romania, Ukraine, France, Germany, Italy, Greece, the Netherlands, the USA, Israel, and others. These partnerships focus on training medical professionals and advancing medical and pharmaceutical sciences.
International cooperation supports integration into the global education system, encourages academic mobility, and fosters innovation in medical education, research, and healthcare. The university’s modern infrastructure and resources support all areas of academic and clinical training.
Over the past 75 years, the university has trained more than 45,000 doctors and pharmacists, including 7,000 working internationally. Currently, over 7,000 students from Moldova and 33 other countries are enrolled across its departments and 88 affiliated clinics and polyclinics.
The Scientific Medical Library of Nicolae Testemitanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy is a modern center dedicated to medical and pharmaceutical information and documentation. It plays a vital role in supporting academic study, scientific research, and professional development within the university and broader medical community.
With a collection of over 900,000 physical and digital items, the library offers resources in Romanian, Russian, English, French, and German. This includes books, academic journals, dissertations, electronic documents, and specialized materials, making it one of the most comprehensive medical libraries in Moldova.
The library serves more than 11,000 users annually—students, faculty, and healthcare professionals—recording around 400,000 visits and 580,000 loans each year. Its facilities include three well-equipped reading rooms with nearly 400 seats, dedicated group-study areas, and Infomedica centers featuring over 70 internet-connected computers, Wi-Fi, printing, scanning, and other services.
It provides access to a wide range of electronic databases, clinical guidelines, and evidence-based medical resources. The Electronic Didactic Library, a free digital platform, offers over 750 educational materials that can be downloaded by students and teachers.
The library also holds a rare book collection of over 2,600 volumes, including 150 Renaissance-era works by iconic medical thinkers like Hippocrates, Avicenna (Ibn Sina), Galen, and Paracelsus. It houses personal archives of notable medical professionals and functions as a WHO documentation center and a European Information Center in collaboration with the European Union delegation.
Through international partnerships—including with 12 medical libraries in North Carolina, USA—and participation in networks like the European Association of Health Information and Libraries (EAHIL), the library remains connected to global knowledge flows. It also offers services like interlibrary loans, “ask the librarian,” virtual exhibitions, and maintains an institutional digital repository with nearly 18,600 documents archived.
In 2024, the library expanded further by opening two new reading rooms, enhancing its ability to support modern, collaborative learning environments. With its rich resources, advanced digital infrastructure, and global collaborations, the library stands as a cornerstone of academic excellence and innovation at the university.
Since July 2024, the department is an educational member of the European Academy of Optometry and Optics, giving students free access to its resources, forums, and international events
The Medicine program of study is performed at two faculties: Medicine No. 1 (training languages: Romanian, Russian and French) and Medicine No. 2
(training language: English).
Students start their studies with pre-clinical courses in the first two years. Clinical disciplines are included gradually and are carried out at the university
departments located in hospitals, where students develop their communication and practical skills with real patients.
The students at the Stomatology program of study are trained at the Faculty of Stomatology and carry out their clinical practice in various clinical setting,
including two university dental clinics, equipped with modern devices and medical manikins that help to simulate medical, surgical or clinical scenarios.
The faculty is continuously improving the study process by developing international collaboration with dental faculties in Romania, Ukraine, Russia, USA, France, Czech Republic etc.
Students are trained at the Faculty of Pharmacy and benefit of modern equipment that meets all the requirements for training. The practical skills are developed at the Pharmaceutical Centre, in drug stores (including the University Pharmacy) and the Scientific Centre of Medicinal Herbs
Cultivation.
The candidate should have at least the level of knowledge B1/B2 according to CEFR ((Common European Framework of Reference for Languages)
